Lacrosse Parent-Coach Night

Lacrosse Parents’ Meeting – The annual “Parent-Coach Lacrosse Night” will be held on Wednesday, February 17, at 7 p.m. in the Trophy Room. While the meeting will certainly focus on Upper School lacrosse, parents of Lower School lacrosse players are also encouraged to attend, as well as parents of 4th and 5th graders who may play St. Albans lacrosse in the future. The evening will allow lacrosse parents to meet the coaches who will be working with their sons, and will give them an opportunity to learn more about the St. Albans lacrosse program and the upcoming season. The agenda will include: the lacrosse program philosophy, game and practice schedule, spring break plan, coaches’ expectations of the players, summer lacrosse opportunities, and parent-coach partnerships, among other topics. Due to the rain and field conditions, Friday Night Lights on June 5 is cancelled. Please pass the word (and please stay off the field!). Friday Night Lights will resume on Friday, June 12.

Thursday’s JV Game Moved to Friday

The Junior Varsity game scheduled for this afternoon (Thursday) against St. Mary’s Ryken has been postponed until tomorrow (Friday) at 3:30.  JV players should still be at St. Albans today at 2:45 for a regular practice.

Due to wet field conditions, the STA varsity game against Notre Dame Academy scheduled for this Saturday at 9:30 am has been moved to Episcopal High School and will start a half hour earlier at 9:00 am.

Goodbye To A Friend of STA Lax

Jim Range, long time companion to STA lax parent coordinator Anni McKillop, and all around supporter extraordinaire of Greg McKillop ’09 and Jess McKillop ’12, passed away on January 20, 2009, due to complications from cancer.

Jim’s obituary appeared in the Washington Post on Thursday, January 22, 2009, and on the website dedicated to his memory, www.jimrange.com. He was a well-known environmental lawyer and lobbyist who dedicated his entire career to the preservation of the environment and conservation of wildlife. Two former United States Senators gave remarks at the memorial service held at Fletchers Boat House on Tuesday, January 27, 2009.

As evidenced by the enormous number of people who turned out for the outside ceremony on a cold and snowy day, he will be missed greatly by the conservation community.

He will also be missed greatly by all lovers of STA lacrosse. He was ever present at the games, always next to his Anni. His stalwart support and optimism were evident to all. The boys were lucky indeed to have such a decent, kind, and committed supporter.

STA Helmet Collection for IAIA

The Institute for American Indian Arts (IAIA) is a college for Native Americans in New Mexico (check out www.iaia.edu for more info on the school). The college is starting a lacrosse team, and a former STA lax parent who serves on the board of the college asked if there were any helmets that St. Albans players could donate to the college’s lax team. Given the connection we formed with the Onondaga Nation after our trip to Syracuse in April, 2008, it would be great if we could continue our Native American lax partnership by helping out this new team. If you have any lax helmets that you would be able to donate, please send them to the address below:
