Dear St. Albans Lacrosse Parent,

I hope this note finds you well. The Lester household is “amped up” for Halloween and the stash of loot (candy) my kids will collect only a few hours from now. At press time, our daughter Page (8) is planning to dress up as a lawyer, son Teddy (5) says he’s opting for the easy Gorilla costume, and Grant (2) is slated to go as Bob the Builder. Check with me next week to see how it all went!

I am writing to tell you not about Halloween, but about a wonderful opportunity the varsity lacrosse team will have this spring. We will travel to the Syracuse area to play West Genesee High School on Saturday, April 26, at its home field in Camillus, New York (10 minutes outside of Syracuse). The trip falls over STA’s Phi Beta Kappa weekend, when the boys have Monday, April 28 off from school. The Friday to Sunday trip will serve as our only overnight trip of the season. Read more

St. Albans defeated St. Stephens & St. Agnes 7-6 Saturday in two overtimes to win the IAC tournament for the first time. The win guarantees the Bulldogs at least a share of the IAC league title. Following is the lead paragraph on DCSportsFan. “With 7:52 left in the fourth quarter, St. Albans Jack Balaban fired a goal past Mark White to give the Bulldogs the 6-2 advantage. St. Albans’ sideline erupted as the dagger went deep into the chest of St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes lacrosse team. But 52 seconds later, Andrew Connor scored the first of three goals in the final seven minutes to lead the Saints right back into the game. Connor’s third goal of the period and fourth of the game crossed past Guy Van Syckle and into the back of the net with 36.8 seconds remaining to tie the game, 6-6. But as regulation expired and the game went to a first and then second overtime period, it was Balaban who proved to be the difference. The junior attackman scored the game-winner with 2:54 left in second overtime to hand St. Albans its first IAC lacrosse championship in school history.”

“The last time St. Albans beat Landon in lacrosse was in 1984. Ronald Reagan was president, Joe Theismann was leading the Redskins to an 11-5 season, the Washington Bullets finished 27 games out of first place and Eddie Murray and Cal Ripken, Jr. combined for 56 home runs. Twenty-three short years later, St. Albans lacrosse defeated Landon once again and will play for the IAC Championship this Saturday against St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes. The Saints pulled off a tremendous upset of their own, defeating Georgetown Prep 7-6 to end the Little Hoyas 48-game winning streak. The two upsets will set up the first final without Landon or Prep in IAC history.” more
