To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: Classroom, Character, Community, and Competition.
From the list of 20 candidates, a national media committee will select 10 finalists for the 2010 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award in late March. Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote beginning March 29 and concluding May 18. Fan balloting will then be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award. The winner will be announced at the NCAA Lacrosse Championships in late May.
Muldoon carries a 3.2 GPA as a Religious Studies concentrator, focusing in East Asian Buddhism.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages those leaders to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact on their circle of influence.
One of the top goal scorers in Brown lacrosse history, Muldoon is two-time first team All-Ivy and All-New England selection. His 113 career points rank 25th in the Brown record book, while his 89 career goals are 12th best in Brown lacrosse history. He netted four goals in Brown’s NCAA Playoff game against Johns Hopkins, and scored 36 goals overall, while handing out 11 assists. Muldoon scored four or more goals four other times in games vs. Delaware, Bryant, Yale and Providence.
This past fall, Muldoon ran a coat drive to benefit a local shelter. He did all of the organizational work on the Brown campus for the City of Pawtucket’s warm coat and clothing drive: marketing, managing the collection, and assigning responsibilities to teammates. He collected over 100 coats and many other winter clothing items.
Muldoon has been a major part of Brown’s efforts with a local 3rd grade classroom at Fox Point Elementary School including potentially starting an after-school program with a teammate Matt Greenberg teaching lacrosse in 2010. He really enjoys spending time with the kids, and he is among the team’s best attendees. In addition, Muldoon has had a big role with the Brown lacrosse team’s major initiatives with the Room to Read, the Innocence Project, Sustainable Harvest International, and the Wounded Warrior Project 36 hour runs, where the program raised enough money ($18,000) to build a school in rural Sri Lanka and support the efforts of the Innocence Project (over $20,000) and SHI and WWP ($10,000 each).
