STA in Under Armour GameSix St. Albans students participated in the Under Armour Underclassmen Game played June 16 at Loyola College in Baltimore. The game pitted all-star teams from Washington and Baltimore, and preceded the North-South All Star Game for graduating seniors. STA players making the Washington team at competitive try-outs were Jack Balaban, Pat Dougherty, Roger Ferguson, Billy Grayson, Matt Miller, and Guy Van Syckle. The six Bulldogs were the most for a DC school. Georgetown Prep placed five and Landon placed three players. Thomas Muldoon, who played in last year’s senior all-star game, was in the stands with his father Jim.

portrait-roho.jpgRecent STA graduate Andrew Rohacik has committed to play lacrosse next year at the University of Delaware, which advanced this year to the NCAA semi-finals against eventual champion Johns Hopkins. Andrew is quoted in the May 31 edition of the Wilmington News Journal:

Shillinglaw’s incoming 2007 class is already set, though it did grow by one after Saturday’s game when Andrew Rohacik, a second-team All-Metropolitan (D.C. area) faceoff man from St. Alban’s decided he wanted to play for the Blue Hens.

“I knew I was going to Delaware, but I wasn’t going to play lacrosse in college,” Rohacik said. “Then I watched the game [against Hopkins] and it got me fired up. Watching Alex Smith [UD's record-setting face-off man] … It may sound weird, but they seemed to click well as a team. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the coach. During the game, I wanted them to win so bad. I just figured, I can’t sit and watch. I have to play.” Click here to read the full article.
